Background
The Reuter Foundation is an educational trust that is managed and financed by Reuters, the world news organisation.
At the time of its founding in 1982, the original objective of The Reuter Foundation was to promote standards in international journalism through theoretical and continued education. Today this objective has been broadened to include business studies, financial markets, information technology, medical information and humanitarian causes.

Activities
The activities of The Reuter Foundation are founded on principles of accuracy and impartiality. Many of the areas selected for support reflect the fields of work and interests of Reuters employees. The main elements of The Reuter Foundation's work are:
University fellowships in Europe and the USA and practical study programmes in the UK and elsewhere, led by experienced Reuters journalists.
An Internet library providing links to facts about news items such as the EU, nuclear weapons and the millennium is located in the Reuter Foundation's web site and also includes practical guides, for example: 'A reporter's guide to grabbing a television audience'. Training projects in the fields of business, financial markets and information technology.
Together with Reuter employees, the Reuter Foundation supports humanitarian causes throughout the world in the form of voluntary manpower or financial support. The Reuter Foundation awards a number of media prizes that acknowledge journalistic achievement in various fields - details are available on the web site.
