Beskrivelse:

Background
The Faculty of Communication and Journalism (FCJ) is the oldest and largest faculty of its kind in the Netherlands. It offers a broad variety of both undergraduate and graduate courses in Journalism, Communication Management and Communication Systems.

The FCJ is part of the Hogeschool van Utrecht, a polytechnic school with 25,000 students. The Hogeschool specialises in professional training for a wide variety of professions. The Hogeschool van Utrecht is certified by the state, and its core funding is provided by the Dutch government.

Activities
The Faculty has four divisions: Three undergraduate schools and a division for graduate courses and continuing education:

School of Journalism
Alumni work in all spheres of journalism and at all levels in The Netherlands, in Belgium and abroad. The school has a four year curriculum.

School of Communication Management
- full-time
- part-time

The School of Communication Management trains people for positions in advertising and direct marketing, public relations, public information, management communication and event management.

School of Communication Systems
- full-time
- part-time. Concentrates on computer science applications instead of on computer science itself. The course attempts to answer the question: How do you design and use electronic means to communicate?

Forum, Centre for Postgraduate Courses, continuing education and consultancy. Forum is the new name for all of the courses, consultancy and other contract activities offered by the Faculty of Communication and Journalism. Each professional group remains recognisable in the courses and activities offered. Forum has three divisions that parallel the programmes: Journalism, Communication (including Public Information) and Communication Systems (Internet and Multimedia).

English programmes
The Faculty of Communication and Journalism offers several English programmes:

  • An undergraduate English programme in Communication
  • (Integrated Communication Management, ICM)
  • A Master's programme in European Journalism (in cooperation with the School for Journalism in Århus, Denmark, and the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK).
  • Europe in the World, a one-year programme as part of the undergraduate journalism curriculum, in cooperation with the Danish school of Journalism in Århus.
  • European Culture & European Journalism, an international three-month program aimed at advanced journalism students and young journalists. The program includes various aspects of journalism and culture.

The Masters in European Journalism is targeted at mid-career journalists. The rest of the programmes are aimed at young journalists still attending school.

Foreign students
FCJ accepts foreign students in most of their programs. To participate in the regular programmes, students must be fluent in Dutch and must pass an admission test. Foreign students are also admitted at higher levels. FCJ's mid-career programme is open to professional applicants who are fluent in Dutch. Students of the English programs at the FCJ must be professional working journalists or already attending a school of journalism. The courses conducted by the Forum are of interest for foreign journalists looking for mid-career training options.
