In order to increase the levels of knowledge and insight into journalism and stimulate debate about professional issues, CFJE publishes research, analysis and teaching materials about journalism on the web as well as in print.
The activities are divided into three main strands: an online database about journalism and editorial processes; analysis projects; and seminars.
Journalism online
CFJE is developing an online database about journalism and editorial processes. Over time the ambition is that the database will become an encyclopedia of journalism where terms and concepts are validated by a panel of experts in journalism, photography, and other editorial functions. The first topics which have been extensively covered in the database are the journalistic interview, narrative techniques and storytelling in journalism, and local journalism.

Journalism about celebrities
In June 2001 CFJE published the book "Den glade journalistik" (Feelgood journalism). The book reports on findings from the current analysis project at CFJE on celebrity journalism. The book analyses media coverage of royals and celebrities in 11 media ranging from weekly celebrity magazines to popular newspapers, broadsheet papers and television news casts. It also describes the journalistic working methods, ethics and dynamics in celebrity journalism, and its role in the construction and maintenance of celebrity.

Political journalism
CFJE has commissioned and funded a long term research project on the history and development of political journalism in Denmark which has been carried out by academics based at Copenhagen University. The project has resulted in two books: The first book from 1999 ”Magt og fortælling” (Power and storytelling) presented and debated some of the hypotheses and questions which informed the project. In November 2000 the project's research findings were presented in the book "Politisk journalistik" (Political Journalism).

International journalism
In February 2000 CFJE published the book ”Verden på tilbud” (The World on Offer). The book presents the findings of a project analysing current trends and editorial choices in the area of international journalism at nine Danish newspapers and seven different broadcast news programmes. Based on extensive content analysis, interviews with journalists and editors, and observations in newsrooms, the book discusses the forces which shape the coverage of foreign affairs in modern Danish media.

New news
In March 1999 the centre published its first book ”Nye nyheder” (New news). Based on a project analysing the development of the concept of news in Denmark in the 1990s, the book discusses the development of news values; the production of print, tv, radio and online news; changes in the relationship between journalists and their sources; the importance of the Internet for journalistic research and dissemination; and important trends affecting modern news production such as media convergence and the expectations on journalists to take on new roles in society.
